The morning of Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2026, many users began searching “Is Roblox down?” after encountering error messages while trying to access their favorite games.
Roblox, the popular multiplayer online platform where users create and explore virtual worlds built from digital blocks, is experiencing a major global outage, Techloy reports. The disruption is affecting users in North America, Europe, India, and parts of Asia, with more than 15,000 complaints reported on outage-tracking website DownDetector.
Per DownDetector, most reports involve server connection issues, accounting for roughly 63% of complaints. Gameplay problems make up about 31%, while approximately 5% of users say they cannot access the website at all.
User reports vary widely: some players can log in but can’t join games, others are stuck at the login screen, and some experience brief access before being disconnected shortly after entering a game, per Techloy.
The issues are affecting players across PC, mobile devices, consoles, and web browsers and do not appear to be related to individual devices or home internet connections, notes the outlet.
Error Code 9007 is one of the most frequently reported messages during the outage. The error typically signals an unstable connection between a user’s device and Roblox’s servers.
Because the disruption appears to stem from Roblox’s internal server systems, common troubleshooting steps — such as restarting routers, reinstalling the app, or adjusting account settings — are unlikely to fix the problem. As a result, impacted players have to simply wait for the platform to stabilize.
What Causes Outages Like This?
There are a range of factors that typically cause widespread outages of this scale. They include backend infrastructure failures, unexpected surges in server demand, cloud service interruptions, software updates, network routing changes, and, in some cases, security-related investigations, according to Techloy.
Roblox has not yet provided an official explanation for the outage.
